Introducing Carbon Studios and Microcosm Games
The @Wales Digital Media Initiative is a specialist business incubator. Located in the heart of Cardiff Bay, Wales’ largest digital and media cluster.
@Wales provides specialized business development support for innovative, high growth early stage businesses; and is a part of the incubation chain strategy in Wales to accelerate the growth of SMEs.
A specialist team provides on-site mentorship and IT innovation, business development and marketing support.
Microcosm Games is a Cardiff-based community-gaming business founded in October 2007 by Clint Oldridge, Sam Roads and Michael Borgendahl.
We believe that the future of gaming lies in social, community-based games that everyone can enjoy, and that these games can appeal to a wide demographic: young and old, male and female, casual and experienced gamer. Our games are easy and fun to play, but also offer a challenge for those looking for one. They marry a sense of community and social interaction with an in-depth immersive gaming experience that will keep players coming back for more.
The One RingTM
The One RingTM is Microcosm Games' flagship game, based on The Lord of the RingsTM trilogy of books by J.R.R Tolkien, created by Microcosm Games under license by Middle-earth Enterprises f/k/a Tolkien Enterprises. The game is currently available on Facebook® Platform, and Microcosm Games is looking at the possibility of expanding to other social networking sites.
Carbon Studio is a creative agency specialising in building engaging digital brands. Founded in March 2007, we are a young, exciting and ambitious company who are focused on producing exceptional creative outcomes for our clients, with an award-winning design team who have experience working at top design agencies in London and Wales, we aim to build long term relationships with our clients and partners.

amperSAND is a forum and meeting place for professionals and enthusiasts working in all aspects of digital media, which welcomes businesses, students, independent artists and people with an interest in animation, computer games, digital art, and other production areas in these sectors.
Each amperSAND event focuses on a particular field - from animation to web design, digital music to multimedia with speakers from the industry and the opportunity for discussion. Past presenters have included Aardman Animation, Lionhead Studios, the BBC, Paul Granjon (artist), Rowlands UK, Jonathan Clements (Anime authority), Imaze and many others of equal calibre.
amperSAND is closely associated with the annual international animation and CG conference event SAND (Swansea Animation Days), linked through its aims and function to engender innovative ideas, business collaboration and the convergence of digital technologies.
Both events are initiated and organised by Swansea Metropolitan University's School of Digital Media, who run a raft of programmes in computer animation, creative computer games design, multimedia, interactive media and music technology from HND, BA, BSc to Masters level.
