Swansea Metropolitan University's School of Digital Media continues to grow year on year. All the courses in the School utilise the latest advances in media production to produce time based content and technically competent graduates who are ready to enter the UK media industry.

The latest opportunity is the BA (Hons) in Creative Computer Games Design, which has been developed in liaison with games giants Electronic Arts, Sony and Codemasters. Students on this course actually get to develop game play, game levels and games’ characters, enabling them to contribute creatively and technically to the games industry immediately after graduation. A BSc (Hons) in Computer Games Development is also available for students interested in programming games.

BA (Hons) & BSc (Hons) 3D Computer Animation has been taught in the School of Digital Media for the past eight years with great success and it now also offers an MA in 3D Computer Animation. Graduates are finding themselves working on major budget films such as ‘Prince Caspian’, ‘Batman 5’ and ‘Troy’ both in creating original content and post production. Students pursuing this pathway are supported in their study to become experts in modelling, lighting, scripting, animation, characterisation, SFX and post production, as well as how to set up their own businesses and promote themselves in the competitive media world.

The School of Digital Media established its reputation through the pioneering courses in Multimedia. The Multimedia programmes have carved out the identity of the School through innovations in new media, producing award winning graduates who have the skills necessary to create innovative websites, distance learning material, interactive music albums and corporate promotions.

The success of the programme can be seen through competitions and employment destinations. Students have been finalists in the pan-European EuroPrix competition and for five years running have won the Interactive category for Ffresh, the pan-Wales student Moving Image Festival, in previous years they have also won the Animation category.

The B.Sc. in Music Technology fills the need in the recording industry for skilled graduates in the swiftly developing computer based technologies as well as traditional recording techniques.

Formal qualifications in music theory or performance are not essential as the programme is geared towards producing graduates with skills behind the mixing desk rather than in front of it.

Nevertheless, as basic music theory is essential for understanding sequencing software, music modules are included across the three years to cover this aspect of the course.
